Pavement Restoration
Problem: Cracked Pavements
Cracked pavements allow surface water to permeate subgrade soils, which saturate and weaken the subgrade. Normal maintenance procedure is to repave with an asphalt overlay. This resurfacing procedure can extend the useful life of a pavement section at a lower cost than a full replacement. However, the extended useful service life of an overlay can be reduced by subgrade saturation/weakening which causes fatigue cracking and propagation of cracks from the original pavement through the existing overlay (reflecting cracking).
Solutions:

MiraPave (Mirafi MPV)
The addition of the correct fabric into a pavement overlay reduces the effect of mechanisms which deteriorate pavements and increases the life of the overlay pavement section. Mirapave®, needle-punched heatset polypropylene nonwoven fabrics with high asphalt absorption, are specifically designed for asphalt overlay applications. When installed with a proper surface preparation and tack coat, Mirapave® forms an impermeable membrane that prevents the penetration of surface water through the pavement and also provides a stress relieving layer which inhibits reflective crack growth.

Mirafi® TruPave®
TruPave® engineered paving mat is a nonwoven pavement interlayer composed of high strength fiberglass and polyester fibers conforming to ASTM D-7239. It is designed with low elongation and high strengths to reinforce the pavement section and retard reflective cracking in overlay applications. TruPave® installed with an asphalt tack cost creates a moisture barrier between the existing pavement and new overlay thus dramatically increasing the life of the pavement. TruPave is millable and fully recyclable.

Mirafi® FG
Mirafi® FG asphalt overlay reinforcement system are paving grids made of high modulus polyester or fiberglass yarns bonded to a light weight scrim. Used primarily for asphalt overlay reinforcement, the paving grid allows water to pass through the pavement system without damage to the structure. Specifically designed for the construction and repair of flexible (asphalt) and rigid (concrete) pavements such as roads, parking lots, airfields, and other paved surfaces, Mirafi® FG asphalt overlay reinforcement system extends the life of the entire pavement system when placed with a suitable tack coat between the existing pavement and the asphalt overlay. The polyester scrim bonds to the existing pavement and is tacked with liquid asphalt, providing adhesion of the paving grid during construction of the hot mix overlay. Hot mix asphalt interlocks with the open grid, providing maximum reinforcement when bonded with the new pavement layer.

Mirafi® FGC (Fiberglass Grid)
Mirafi® FGC asphalt overlay reinforcement system is composed of fiberglass grids bonded to a nonwoven paving fabric. This fabric must meet AASHTO specifications. Used primarily in asphalt overlay reinforcement, the grids provide high strength at very low strains (less than 2% strain). Specifically designed for the construction and repair of asphalt and concrete pavements, Mirafi® FGC asphalt overlay reinforcement system extends the life of the entire pavement system when placed with a suitable tack coat between the existing pavement and the asphalt overlay. Cracked pavements allow water to permeate into sub-grade soils, thereby saturating and weakening the sub-grade. Normally, an asphalt overlay is placed with a nonwoven paving fabric and a tack coat. While this procedure reduces reflective cracking, it does not provide reinforcement, only serving as a moisture barrier. By adding Mirafi® FGC asphalt overlay reinforcement system, cracks are contained before causing harm to the pavement overlay system.
